Disk Bays

A Disk Bay is an essential element of the Disk Bay Layout, providing a graphical widget representation of local physical data storage. Depending on the active style selection in the Customize settings menu, size, and orientation (horizontal or vertical), Disk Bay widgets can display content differently within the layout. Users can adjust these settings or modify the widget size to achieve the desired results.

Disk Bays can also be grouped into Disk Batches to apply processing scripts, defined by the Disk Batch, to the data storage devices represented by these Disk Bays.

Mapping Disk Bays

By default, all Disk Bays are created as unassigned when a Disk Bay Layout is created. Several mapping techniques can be used to identify physical data storage in a Disk Bay widget:

Using Disk Ports
Apply the alphanumeric disk port ID issued by the disk controller to the Disk Bay widget. This is the primary method for Disk Bay mapping;
Using Platform Names
Identify data storage by the operating system platform name. This is useful when data storage devices cannot be identified by the controller's port ID but always have a unique platform name;
Dynamic (loose) Disk Bay mapping
Loose coupling assigns data storage devices to Disk Bays in a "first-come-first-served" manner. This can be useful for data storage devices that cannot be properly identified by either the disk controller port or platform name;

Disk port assignment can be easily done from Disk Bay context menu, where disk ports are listed grouped by controller. Platform name or dynamic Disk Bay mapping can be done in Disk Bay Layout Editor.
